Aetna CVS Health will exit the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace for individual and family plans, effective January 1, 2026. This means that Aetna-branded ACA plans will no longer be available through the marketplace after December 31, 2025.

This change is expected to impact approximately 1 million Aetna policyholders across 17 states. Aetna CVS Health plans to send letters to members around July 1, 2025, to provide more details.

Affected members will need to select a new ACA-compliant plan from a different health insurance company during Open Enrollment, which begins November 1, 2025.

Aetna's decision to leave the ACA marketplace is attributed to rising healthcare costs, challenging financial performance, and a strategic shift in focus by CVS Health towards other health benefits, such as Medicare Advantage and employer-sponsored plans.
